Timeline of Trek

Day 1

NJP to Kopidana

After you reach NJP, we will arrange for your breakfast. Freshen up, have your breakfast, and our car will take you to Kopidana. Kopidana, which is 84 km from NJP, is a picturesque place from where this trek will begin. It is a small town, often covered in mist and fog, with little houses and shops. You can retire for the day at our homestay and relax or stroll around the shops and restaurants of the town. Nightstay at Kopidana.
Day 2

Trek from Kopidana to Tumling via Tonglu

Freshen up, have your breakfast, and then your trek begins. Our representative will guide you to Tumling from Kopidana. Trek 11 km through mesmerising forests of the Kanchenjungha national park, blooming with mosses and wild flowers. Most of the trek from Dhotrey to Tumling is uphill, through the beautiful hamlet of Tonglu. This trek is about 9 km long and will take up to 6 hours. Reach Tumling by lunchtime and be welcome by our homestay host. Freshen up, have lunch and enjoy the nightfall here. Night stay at Tumling.
Day 3

Trek from Tumling to Kalapokhri via Gairibas

We’ll arrange for an early morning breakfast, after which you’ll start the trek from Tumling to Kalapokhri. Kalapokhri is a beautiful hamlet and on your reach there, you’ll see the picturesque lake or “pokhri” from which the place derives its name. The trek from Tumling to Kalapokhri can be described as : a gradual ascent for the first 1.5 hours followed by a 40 minute descent and then a steep ascent from Gairibas for about an hour, followed by an easy descent; level walks on the motor road for the last 2 hours. This trek is about 12 km long and will take up to 7-8 hours. But don’t worry; you’ll have a break between Tumling and Kalapokhri at Gairibas. In here, where you’ll find a couple of food-joints just by the Nepal border, you can have some food and water. Reach Kalapokhri by late afternoon and be welcome by our homestay host. Freshen up, have snacks and enjoy the nightfall here. Nightstay at Kalapokhri.
Day 4

Trek from Kalapokhri to Sandakphu

After early morning breakfast, you’ll start your trek from Kalapokhri to Sandakphu. Sandakphu is the highest point in Bengal at an altitude of 11,930 feet. A flat table-top at this height, which will offer you glimpses of some of the highest peaks of the world (find the detailed picture below). The trek from Kalapokhri to Sandakphu can be described as : a gradual ascent for the first 30 minutes followed by a steep ascent for about an hour, and finally, an undulating path on the motor road. Sandakphu has become a popular trekking destination amongst people in general and Bengalis in particular, and you’ll find a number of hotels and homestays in here. However, it is a bit hard to make bookings in Sandakphu. This trek is about 6 km long and will take up to 5 hours. Reach Sandakphu by lunchtime and be welcome by our homestay host. Freshen up, have lunch and enjoy the nightfall here. Make sure to go to bed early because you’ll have to wake up very early next morning to see the sunrise. Night stay at Sandakphu.
Day 5

Trek from Sandakphu to Sepi Gaon via Gurdum

Be woken up by our representative before dawn and get ready to go to the viewpoint. Make sure to wear sufficient woollens that can protect you from the chilling cold. The average Sandakphu temperature ranges between minus 2 degree celsius to 8 degree celsius. And the nights can be even colder. Watch the breathtakingly beautiful sunrise literally from the highest point in Bengal! Get clear glimpses of Kanchenjungha (along with other peaks) in first rays of the sun. There goes on a strange phenomenon here : as the sun rises gradually, and reveals the Kanchenjungha from the nightly darkness, the snow-capped peak starts reflecting the sunlight in different shades of red. This is a surreal sight and an experience of a lifetime. Return to our homestay, freshen up and have breakfast. Then you’ll start the trek from Sandakphu to Sepi Gaon. Sepi is a small yet beautiful hamlet, tugged in the darkness of the surrounding forests and walled by the river Sirikhola. This trek is about 16 km long and will take up to 6 hours. The entire trek is downhill and easy. Reach Sepi Gaon by lunchtime and be welcome by our homestay host. Relax for the entire day at and around the place, visit the Sirikhola river if you want, and enjoy the nightfall in here. We’ll arrange a campfire to mark the last night of the trip. Nightstay at Sepi Gaon.
Day 6

Reach NJP from Sepi Gaon

Have breakfast in our homestay. Meanwhile, our car will wait at your doorstep. Reach NJP from Sepi in our car. It’ll take around 5-6 hours so book your return tickets accordingly!
